Welcome to the New York Chapter of ASMBS

The purpose of the New York State Chapter of ASMBS is to encourage members to pursue investigations both in the clinic and in the laboratory. As a group, we strive for the interchange of ideas, share information and experience pertaining to bariatric surgery, and promote improved peri-operative and long-term care of patients.

Chapter efforts focus on the reduction of patient risk, the advancement of education and educational programs for physicians, integrated health members, lay people and paramedical professionals.

In representing the ASMBS, we strive to be an integral source for surgeon’s to keep abreast of governmental activities, regulations, laws, proposed regulations and proposed legislation so they may handle local and regional issues as they pertain to access to bariatric surgery as well as promote efforts to have proper legislative and insurance review processes in the State of New York.  Read the Board Bylines here.

Integrated Health

The Integrated Health Section (IHS) consists of mid-level practitioners, nutritionists, exercise specialists, psychologists and other personnel involved with bariatric patient care including hospital administration.   Our Section was developed as a part of the NYS Chapter to help guide multi-disciplinary teams locally and nationally towards effective and safe bariatric care.  Our primary goal is to provide support, education and an open forum for ongoing system and patient care improvement, which ultimately is critical for the immediate and long-term success of bariatric patients.
